BINA.'s Chaos Is Her Name is an impressive EP that captures an artist fully embracing her sound and identity. Known for her indie-soul style, the South London musician dives deep into themes of self-discovery, mental health, and the push and pull of self-worth. It's an intimate journey, handled with honesty and sophistication, reflecting her growth since her previous project, This Is Not a Film.

The EP is anchored by Subculture's production, whose past work with talents like Nao and Rachel Chinouriri seems to bring out the best in BINA., enhancing her voice without overshadowing it. The collaboration leads to a compelling mix of rawness and polish, keeping her soulful spirit intact while layering in rich sonic textures and samples. Across the tracks, the production maintains a cohesive, almost seamless flow. Occasionally, this gives the EP a slightly blended feel, with some songs merging together, but it also creates a beautifully unified experience.

Each track on Chaos Is Her Name is paired with its own visualiser, shot by the rising director NIYADRE, adding a striking visual layer to BINA.'s storytelling. These visualisers elevate the EP's immersive quality, offering glimpses into the mood and themes of each song.

The opener, "Orange (Mania)," sets the tone, using a harp and warped synths to evoke a sense of anxiety and wonder. BINA. introduces a dreamy, introspective vibe with lyrics that hover between whimsy and vulnerability, capturing a feeling of quiet introspection. Moving forward, Self Assured captures her confidence as an artist, not as a track lyrically but as an overarching impression — it's clear she knows her sound and isn't afraid to explore it.

On “Sleepless," featuring Essence Martins and Leonie Biney, BINA. reflects on mental health pressures with a haunting beauty. Percussive elements are especially strong here, creating a soulful, moody backdrop that pairs perfectly with the delicate, ethereal vocals. It's a relatable exploration of holding back emotions and worrying about how others receive them, making for one of the EP's most impactful moments.

"Bossy" feels like a celebration of self-assuredness, with drums providing a Bossa nova-inspired rhythm and guitar building an irresistible groove that feels like the EP's turning point — BINA. is beginning to reclaim her power here. "Precious," one of the lead singles, brings a more reflective tone, touching on the fading glow of a relationship and the bittersweet acceptance of its end. I first stumbled upon BINA. performing at All Points East on a small stage between sets — her vocals and presence drew me in, and I can feel that same magnetic energy reflected in this EP. "Precious," in particular, holds that crowd-drawing magic, and I can imagine it resonating powerfully live. Following this release, she set off to support BLK ODYSSY on a European tour, a testament to her rising prominence in the live music scene.

"Dopamine" shifts the focus to the external, reflecting on how people's perceptions change as one's profile grows. BINA.'s sing-rapping here adds a nice layer of complexity, balancing her softer tones with a bolder, more rhythmic delivery. It's a pointed commentary on the weight of expectations placed on artists, as BINA. muses on how people can forget the humans behind the music.

The closing track, "Inside Out," isn't about having all the answers but rather the comfort of knowing she's on the right path. 9DAYS adds a lovely vocal dynamic while choir-like harmonies lift the song to an almost triumphant close. BINA. reaches a place of self-worth here, her vocals becoming more assertive, closing the EP on a hopeful note.

Chaos Is Her Name is a cohesive, insightful work from an artist coming into her own. BINA. blends ethereal vocals with deep-rooted themes, creating an immersive world that feels relatable yet uniquely hers. If there's any critique, it's that some tracks can blur into one another, but ultimately, this works in her favour, adding to the EP's sense of dreamy continuity. The project is a testament to her growth, a promising chapter from an artist who has just begun tapping into her potential.
